A GULF War veteran has been banned from driving after he was twice found to be over the drink-drive limit.
Steven Kelly, of Stenton Road, West Barns, was caught by police driving his car with 65mg of alcohol in 100ml of breath near his home on May 23 last year.
He was subsequently stopped on Spott Road, Dunbar, on August 27 last year with 86mg of alcohol in 100ml of breath. The legal limit is 22mg.
Kelly, 55, pleaded guilty to both charges when he appeared at Edinburgh Sheriff Court last month and returned to be sentenced last week.
He represented himself and told Sheriff Gillian Sharp he was “sorry”.
Kelly said that he had served his country in the first Gulf War and held several “responsible jobs” but had suffered some problems last year that had led him to committing the offences.
He had previously told the court that the DVLA had revoked his licence on medical grounds.
Kelly was handed a structured deferred sentence to September and was banned from driving for three years.
