Tranent Day Care Centre has received a glowing report from the Care Inspectorate following an unannounced inspection earlier this year.

Inspectors visited the service, on Sanderson’s Wynd, in July, when five members of staff were spoken to, 21 users met with, and daily practice was observed.

In its report, the Care Inspectorate found the service was ‘very good’ for its staff team and setting, and ‘good’ for supporting wellbeing, staff leadership and how well planned care support was.

The report read: “On arrival at the centre, we observed people were welcomed with genuine warmth and kindness from the staff team, who knew them well.

“The staff were aware of people’s individual abilities and supported these.

“The service benefited from having two volunteer drivers that supported the pick-up/drop-off for people, as well as driving the minibus for trips out.

“The cook and cleaner were local to the area and knew people as well, showing strong community connections.

“This meant that people were experiencing care and support in a group that was right for them.

“Activities were set over the day but were flexible and directed by the choices of the people who attended the centre – dominoes was popular.

“People told us they enjoyed coming to the centre, the company and the singers. Relatives told us ‘my relative is very happy there, it’s a big part of their daily life’.

“The centre was supported by a stable staff team; we reviewed the latest recruitment and all checks had been completed. Regular supervision was in place for the staff and training was online or organised face-to-face sessions and was up to date.”

The report also noted that no complaints had been upheld since the last inspection in 2019.

Donald Grant, chairperson of the trustees at Tranent Day Care Centre, said: “The inspection report reflects the quality of the work being done by our wonderful staff led by our manager Diane Radin and is fully endorsed by our clients and the day centre’s trustees.”

The centre’s trustees held their AGM on November 15, with Mr Grant being elected chairperson, Ronnie Knox elected vice-chair and health and safety officer, Janice Sparks named secretary, and James Paterson treasurer.
