LIFEBOAT and Coastguard teams have linked up for a training exercise to ‘rescue’ half a dozen people trapped on rocks.

Dunbar’s lifeboat and coastguard teams were joined by colleagues from North Berwick’s coastguard team at Bass Rock on Sunday afternoon.

The training scenario saw crews arriving to find six casualties, many with fractures or severe bleeds.

The teams worked together, sharing knowledge and practises, to carry out triage, administer first aid and then facilitate the extraction of the casualties, using both Dunbar's inshore lifeboat (ILB) and all-weather lifeboat (ALB).

A spokesman for Dunbar RNLI said: “We were blessed with favourable conditions and the dramatic setting of the Bass Rock made for an invigorating exercise.

“We learned a great deal from working together and, hopefully, should the unfortunate occasion arise when we have to put training like this into practice, we'll be even better prepared to deal with any eventuality.

“Sadly, North Berwick Lifeboat, who were also invited to participate, were unable to join us due to technical difficulties.

“We would like to thank both coastguard teams for their participation and hope we can all team up again in the near future for further training.”
