A family have been left devastated following the death of a second family member as a result of a tragic accident on an M8 slip road last Saturday.

The 68-year-old driver of the vehicle, Maureen McCready was taken to hospital in a critical condition after the crash which took the life of her 95-year-old mother, Agnes (Nancy) Brannigan. 

It was announced this morning that Maureen had succumbed to her injuries and passed away last night. 

In an emotional post on Facebook her sister Mary wrote: "So in the end, last night, my sweet sister Maureen succumbed to the catastrophic injuries sustained in the crash which also took our mother.

"Thanks to everyone for all the love and support so freely offered and gratefully accepted. We are all devastated."

Several people have sent messages of condolence to the family during this difficult time.

One friend wrote: "Oh! Mary, this is so awful for you....find strength from your family and the love of your many friends. You are in all of our thoughts at this sad time."

Another added: "Aw Mary how sad, u have been in my thoughts and prayers since awful tragedy happened! I know u must be devastated, so very sorry for your loss, sending my love to you."

The accident which took place on Saturday, September 15 happened on the M73 slip road to the M8, where it is thought the vehicle lost control and crashed into a ditch on the grass verge.

Agnes (Nancy) Brannigan, was pronounced dead at the scene.

An investigation to establish the circumstances is underway and officers are appealing for anyone who may have seen the incident to contact them. Motorists are also being asked to check any dash cam footage which may have captured detail which could be relevant to the investigation.
