AN ORMISTON man who bit a man during a fight at a miners’ club has been ordered to pay his victim compensation.

Connor Rowan attacked Broque Watson by grabbing him in a headlock and biting down on his ear.

Rowan, of Limeylands Road, also attempted to punch Mr Watson during the clash at Woodburn Miners’ Club in Dalkeith last year.

Rowan was due to stand trial at Edinburgh Sheriff Court but pleaded guilty to an amended charge moments before the trial hearing was due to begin.

Sheriff Frank Crowe ordered the 20-year-old attacker to pay Mr Watson £1,000 in compensation.

The sheriff also banned Rowan from entering Woodburn Miners’ Club for the next 12 months.

Rowan pleaded guilty to assaulting Mr Watson by attempting to punch him, placing him in a headlock and biting his ear, all to the man’s severe injury and permanent disfigurement, on August 27 last year.
