THERE is major disruption on the railway line in East Lothian after a train broke down at Longniddry.

Early-morning services from North Berwick to Edinburgh had to be cancelled due to the breakdown - all services between the stations were suspended.

The broken-down train has now been moved but disruption is expected to continue on the line until 12.15pm.

A statement on the ScotRail website said: "We are working hard to get services back on schedule but due to the amount of disruption, services are still suspended."

Replacement buses were sourced to run between North Berwick and Longniddry, while a ticket acceptance scheme was in place with Lothian Buses between Edinburgh and Prestonpans.

Trains are now set to begin running on the line again but significant delays are expected.
