A DESIGNER handbag containing large quantities of medication has been lost after it was left on a bus.

Police have issued a warning after the pink Louis Vitton bag was reported lost on a bus journey between Musselburgh and Penicuik on Friday.

The bag contained more than 100 Dihydrocodeine tablets, as well as almost 60 Mirtazapine tablets.

Police said both medications can cause serious harm and should only be taken if prescribed by a medical professional.

They appealed for help tracing the pills.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: "If you have taken anything not prescribed for you and feel unwell, seek medical help immediately.

"If you find either the medication or the handbag, please hand in to your nearest police station or call Police Scotland on 101."
