THREE young musicians are getting ready to perform in front of 20,000 people.

East Lothian trio Shuna Lovelle, Carli Trotter and Caitlyn Vanbeck are among 16 young musicians invited to perform at Youth Beatz this weekend

Scotland’s largest free youth music festival takes place tomorrow and Sunday in Dumfries, with artists like Rudimental, S Club and Maggie Lindemann among the headliners.

Shuna, 21, is on the main stage on Sunday afternoon, with thousands of people expected to be in attendance.

The ex-Dunbar Grammar School pupil described the size of the crowd as “a little daunting”.

She said: “I’m so excited to be playing on the main stage with such incredible artists like Rudimental and really appreciate the opportunity Youth Beatz have given me.

“I’ve recently played at Meadows Festival in Edinburgh and am really looking forward to performing again.

“I’m currently working on new releases and collaborations which should be released later this year.”

Shuna, of Dunbar, entered the competition by uploading her track to the Youth Beatz website and then progressed to a slot on the Upload Stage.

However, her sound impressed the judges so much that she then secured a slot on the Main Stage.

Caitlyn Vanbeck, of Tranent, and Carli Trotter, of Haddington, are also performing at the festival.

Caitlyn, 20, who last month cracked the top 20 of the iTunes Country download chart, is on the Upload Stage on Sunday.

She was looking forward to the festival, which has previously been headlined by artists including Professor Green, Tinchy Stryder and James Arthur, and said: “It came as a wee bit of a surprise.

“A few of my friends are doing it.

“It’s good, especially since I have taken such a break since X Factor. It is nice to go out and get a big crowd like that.”

Meanwhile, 19-year-old Carli, who previously took part in Haddington-based Lamp House Music’s One Step Beyond project for young musicians, also performs on Sunday.

She said: “This is such a massive thing to me as it has always been a dream of mine to play to up to that many people but I never imagined it would be possible.

“If it wasn’t for Lamp House Music giving me the confidence throughout my years of high school to continue pursuing my dream of being a singer-songwriter I would probably still be either playing and singing to myself in my bedroom or to the odd few people at a local event.”
