A WOMAN was indecently assaulted as she walked on Longniddry Bents yesterday afternoon.

Police are appealing for witnesses after the 4.30pm incident happened as the woman was walking on a footpath between car park No.1 and car park No.2.

A man believed to be in his fifties grabbed the 59-year-old woman from behind and assaulted her before fleeing when she screamed.

Police said the man was described as white, around 5ft 9ins tall and overweight.

He was wearing a white polo shirt with coloured hoops and grey jogging bottoms.

Police Constable Kris Macleod, from Haddington Police Station, said: "While the victim has not been injured, this attack has left her extremely distressed and we are eager to hear from anyone who can help us trace the suspect.

"If you were in the area of the car parks at Longniddry Bents on Tuesday afternoon and witnessed what happened, then please contact police immediately.

"We would also urge anyone with any other information relevant to this ongoing investigation to get in touch."
