YOUNGSTERS at Longniddry Primary School launched their Bubbles Beat Balloons campaign this morning.

The pupils are asking everyone in their community to consider ditching events that release balloons in favour of blowing bubbles.

The campaign comes after they were involved in One Planet One Future project and saw the recent Blue Planet programme on the BBC which revealed the devastating impact plastic has on earth.

Ava Richards, one of the campaign group leading the move, said she wants local businesses and events to consider ditching balloons.

P4 pupil Ava, 8, told the Courier: "It makes me sad when I hear about balloons being released.

"It is nice to do something when something sad happens but balloons hurt animals and we need to help the animals or they could become extinct."

The campaigners will be putting their case to Longniddry Community Council on Monday and hope others will join their cause.
