NORTH Berwick rugby ace Lewis Carmichael scored a try on his international debut as Scotland beat Canada in Edmonton this morning (Sunday).
Carmichael, a former pupil of the town’s high school and a product of North Berwick RFC, came on for his Edinburgh Rugby colleague Ben Toolis after an hour of the 41-10 win.
With two minutes to go, he collected a pass outside the Canadian 22m line and galloped home unopposed to touch down.
A few moments later, he won the turnover that secured possession and sealed the end of a comfortable win.
Elsewhere, there was a hat-trick of tries from replacement hooker George Turner and scores for Byron McGuigan, Ruaridh Jackson and Magnus Bradbury, with whom Carmichael shares a flat in Edinburgh, as Scotland opened their tour in emphatic fashion.
Twenty-three-year-old Carmichael will hope to earn a second cap when Scotland take on USA next Sunday morning.
