BOXING sensation Josh Taylor insists there is “no way” he will lose his WBC world title final eliminator to Viktor Postol in Glasgow next month.

The Prestonpans star, the current WBC Silver Super Lightweight champion, came face-to-face with his Ukrainian opponent for the first time at a press conference in Glasgow on Monday.

And Taylor, who goes into the June 23 bout protecting an unbeaten 12-fight professional record, acknowledges the former world champion will be his toughest test to date.

At the Hilton Grosvenor Hotel, he said: “This is definitely the biggest fight of my career to date and the atmosphere on fight night should give me the extra 10 per cent I need.”

The 27-year-old was also looking forward to a return to the SSE Hydro – the scene of his last fight, a second-round demolition of Winston Campos in March.

“It’s great to be fighting in Glasgow,” he said.

“Every time I’ve been here since the Commonwealth Games the reception has been unbelievable.”

The former Preston Lodge High School pupil, an Olympian in 2012 and Commonwealth Games gold medallist in Glasgow in 2014, also sung the praises of ‘Ice Man’ Postol, a former two-weight world champion.

The only defeat on his 30-fight CV came at the hands of American Terence Crawford – regarded by many as the best pound-for-pound fighter in the world.

Taylor added: “Viktor is someone I have a lot of respect for and he’s shared a ring with some top opposition, but I won’t waste this chance to fight for a world title.

“I don’t know exactly how the fight is going to unfold on June 23, but I know that it’ll be a Josh Taylor win.

“There’s no way I’m losing this fight in front of those fans.”

Meanwhile, 34-year-old Postol was similarly respectful of Taylor’s accomplishments in his three-year professional career.

He said: “I know that Josh Taylor is confident, otherwise he would not have taken this fight.

“He is a good boxer, he has a lot of knockouts and I know how dangerous he is.”

And while he acknowledged it would be a “hard fight to predict”, he stressed he wanted to become the first man to knock out Taylor.

Postol added: “I hope that everybody watches on June 23 and I think I can take a big step towards becoming a world champion once again.”

Taylor’s manager Barry McGuigan looked forward to “the most important fight of Josh’s career”.

The Hall of Famer added: “It’s the final hurdle before we get to fight for the world title and it’s against a very dangerous opponent.

“It’s going to be a fantastic night of boxing and I really think Josh will show us what he’s got.

“He’ll be magnificent and there’s no doubt about that.”

McGuigan hailed the bout as a “major fight for world boxing” and praised Postol.

He added: “Viktor is someone we have a great deal of respect for and he’s definitely the best fighter to travel to Scotland since Crawford.

“We’re very excited about it.”
