A PRESTONPANS woman has denied stealing more than £20,000 from the Royal Bank of Scotland in Tranent.

Mary Purves pleaded not guilty to taking a total of £23,493.85 from the RBS in the town’s High Street when she appeared in the dock at Edinburgh Sheriff Court.

Purves, 27 Grange Road, is alleged to have committed the offence between June 1 and August 25, 2016.

The 50-year-old denied any knowledge of the theft and will return to court for a further intermediate diet later this month with a trial pencilled in for later this year.
