A TRANENT thug has been jailed after he attacked a woman while he was in possession of an extendable baton.
Dean Riding assaulted the woman by brandishing the weapon at her during an incident in a Prestonpans street.
Riding, Ormiston Crescent West, admitted the attack when he appeared at Edinburgh Sheriff Court.
During the hearing he also pleaded guilty to a charge of possessing an offensive weapon, namely the baton, during the incident at the town’s North Bank Road.
A not guilty plea to behaving in a threatening or abusive manner by repeatedly shouting, swearing and uttering threats of violence towards his assault victim was accepted by the Crown.
Sheriff Peter McCormack deferred sentence for reports after Riding had admitted the offence at a previous appearance.
When he appeared before the sheriff again, 21-year-old Riding was given a 60-day prison sentence for the offences which happened on March 2 this year.
