THE hard work and commitment of Tranent's sporting stars and heroes will be recognised this evening as the annual community awards are held.

Tranent and District Community Sports Club awards will be held in East Lothian Co-operative Bowling Club in the town.

The awards celebrate not only sporting success and achievements but also the community spirit shown by those behind the scenes and supporting local clubs.

This year's nominees are:

Volunteer of the Year; Michelle Rendall (Bronx Boxing Gym), Mike Dick (Tranent Colts). Team of the Year; The Bronx Boxing Club, Ross High RFC 1st XV, Tranent Amateur Swimming Club Coverdale Team, Ross High Ladies Hockey Team, Tranent and Preston Village Cricket Club 1st XI,

Black Diamond Thai Boxing Club. Community Club of the Year; The Bronx Gym, Tranent Amateur Swimming Club, RossHigh RFC, Ross High Youth Hockey, Jogscotland @ Meadowmill.

Sportsperson of the Year; Mitchell Barton (Bronx Boxing Club), Dougie Russell (Tranent and Preston Village Cricket Club), Claire Logan (Chris Ewing Karate), Kalib McIntyre (Chris Ewing Karate), Michael Hird (Ross High RFC). Junior Team of the Year; Ross High RFC U18 Colts, Tranent Colts F.C. Girls U13’s, Ross High School U18’s Hockey Team, Black Diamond Mauy Thai Club. Contribution to School Sport; Donna Hill, Alison Gordon, Danny Gait and Kate Flory, Ross High Boys Hockey Team.

Junior Volunteer of the Year; Olivia Taylor, Mari-Anne Scott, Cari Hall, Michael Hird. Coach of the Year; Alison Gordon, Chris Ewing, Scott Hendry.

Junior Sportsperson of the Year ; Alexander Bauld, Jay Jack, Stefan Krawiec.

Winners and nominees for three further awards, Community Projects or Events, Disability Sportsperson of the Year and Lifetime Contribution, will be announced at this evening's ceremony.
