Swimming star Dan Wallace has claimed Commonwealth Games bronze as part of the 4x20m freestyle relay team.

Wallace’s bronze medal - alongside Stephen Milne, Duncan Scott and Mark Szaranek - took Scotland’s medal tally for the day to eight.

Mike Whittingham, sportscotland director of high performance, said: “Congratulations to Stephen Milne, Duncan Scott, Dan Wallace and Mark Szaranek on their bronze medal win.

“They performed fantastically against some very strong teams and this medal is well deserved."

Earlier in the day, Cockenzie and Port Seton bowls ace Derek Oliver took gold as part of the men’s triples team.

Thirty-three-year-old Oliver, making his Commonwealth Games debut, teamed up with Darren Burnett and Ronnie Duncan as they stormed to the gold medal - Scotland’s first ever medal in the triples.

Wins over Wales and Norfolk Island in the quarter and semi finals respectively booked their final place.

And in the gold medal match, Oliver and Co. defeated hosts Australia 19-14.
