MORE snow could be on the way for East Lothian today (Friday) as a 'mini Beast from the East' arrives from Siberia.

The Met Office has issued yellow 'be aware' warnings of snow and ice for Friday evening, with the ice warning extending into Saturday morning.

The wintry weather is coming from Siberia, just like the 'Beast from the East' snow storm which caused major disruption earlier this month, including bringing East Lothian's first ever red weather warning - the most serious.

However, though the latest weather system is coming from the same direction, it is predicted to be far less severe and to pass through far more quickly, and has been dubbed the 'mini Beast from the East'.

Also, unlike the Beast from the East, it is expected to mostly bypass East Lothian, with the east coast of England likely to bear the brunt of the snow.

In East Lothian it is expected to rain for the vast majority of the day today but potentially turn to sleet in the evening and then possibly to snow overnight.

However, any snowfall in the county is expected to be minimal.

The bigger hazard for East Lothian both today and over the weekend is likely to be ice, with bitterly cold temperatures barely rising above freezing, and strong winds meaning temperatures could feel considerably colder even than that.

Pedestrians and drivers are urged to take car on roads and paths as they could potentially be slippery.
