KIND-HEARTED youngster Brayden Reilly used his birthday party to help raise money for a young boy battling cancer after being inspired by his hero, champion boxer Josh Taylor.

Brayden, from Musselburgh, turned five last month and his family held a party in the rugby club at Stoneyhill.

Guests were invited to donate money to a charity bucket for Action for Alex, which is supporting the family of Alex Logan, six, who has been receiving treatment for diffuse intrinsic pontine glioma (DIPG), a rare brain tumour.

Brayden’s mum Shelley revealed he was inspired to raise the money after seeing Prestonpans boxer Josh Taylor wearing an Action for Alex t-shirt at a fight last November.

She said: “Brayden is a huge fan of Josh Taylor and he saw him wearing the t-shirt.

“We then had an opportunity for Brayden to meet Josh and asked about how we could support the campaign.

“We were able to get a charity box for Brayden’s birthday party and I explained to him that Alex was poorly, which is tough to explain to a young child, and we were going to collect pennies for him.

“At the party, Brayden went into the bar area and took the collection box around asking everyone to donate. He really wanted to help.”

The family also sold refreshments for donations from guests at the party and raised more than £81 on the day.

Action for Alex is fundraising to give his family options as he undergoes treatment for his condition.
