ROADWORKS in Haddington’s town centre are due to be complete by the end of the week.

Resurfacing work on Hardgate, High Street, Market Street and Victoria Terrace got under way last Thursday.

Resurfacing is due to be finished today (Tuesday), with road markings and road studs added from Wednesday through to Friday.

Ahead of the roadworks, councillor Norman Hampshire, the local authority’s spokesman for the environment, said: “The work will be undertaken in four phases between 9.30am and 4.30pm to minimise disruption to traffic.

“A diversion will be in operation and fully signposted.

“A shuttle bus service will follow the diversion route until connection is made with the normal bus service at A199 Haldane Avenue. There will be no bus stop provision on High Street, the nearest alternative stop will be Court Street.

“Pedestrian access will be maintained at all times and businesses will be open as usual.”

Vehicles coming into the town from the east were unable to cross the River Tyne coming in from Whittingehame Drive.

Instead, they faced a diversion towards Gifford before travelling along Briery Bank and back into the town over the Waterloo Bridge.
