A GAME involving Dunbar RFC was abandoned on Saturday due to a serious injury.
Dunbar's East League Division 1 match with Broughton in the Capital was abandoned early in the second half after a Dunbar player suffered a serious leg injury.
An ambulance was called, but due to a lengthy wait and with light fading, the two sides agreed to call the game off.
Dunbar were trailing 22-12 at the time.
A post on Broughton RFC's Facebook page confirmed the reasons for the abandonment.
It read: "Today's East 1 match against Dunbar was abandoned early into the second half following a leg injury to one our opposition players that required medical treatment.
"Unfortunately due to the failing light and pressure on the ambulance resource in the city, the game was abandoned with the score sitting at 22-12 to Broughton.
"Best wishes and speedy recovery to the injured party."
The game will be rescheduled and re-played as the abandonment came before 60 minutes had been played.
Had the match reached the hour mark, the referee could have blown for full-time and the result would have stood.
A date for the match is to be confirmed by the clubs and Scottish Rugby.
