FESTIVE fans hoping to see the city's Christmas Lights Switch On have been given an another chance.

Glasgow City Council confirmed that they will run a second ballot due to ticket returns for the Christmas Lights Switch On on Sunday.

A spokesman for Glasgow Loves Christmas, said: “Any unwanted or returned tickets will be allocated at random through the same process as the original ballot.

"Glasgow Life will inform recipients by email today and tickets will be sent out by post. Only those fortunate enough to receive tickets will be informed by email.”

The announcement comes after more people than ever put their name in the ballot for the chance to secure tickets for the ceremony, with a total of 317,184 tickets requested.

Only 16,000 tickets are available and successful applicants received an e-mail.

But the local authority said on Wednesday that a second ballot would be run for those who were unsuccessful the first time.

The Evening Times previously reported that over the years, up to 15 per cent of tickets haven’t been used on the night.

Organisers were therefore urging people to only request the exact number of tickets they will need.

This year, a maximum of six tickets could be requested per household, and only one application was accepted per household.

Ninety-three per cent of tickets went go to Glasgow addresses.
