A MAN has been placed on the sex offenders' register after he was found guilty of lewd and indecent behaviour towards a young girl over several years.

Paul Weissgerber, more commonly known by the first name David, of Little Pinkerton Cottages, south of Dunbar, was found guilty of two allegations against him involving the girl, one of which happened when she was just nine years old.

Four other charges alleging a sexual assault on a woman and other indecent acts involving another child were found not proven by the jury during his trial at Edinburgh Sheriff Court.

Weissgerber, 53, was found guilty of using lewd, indecent and libidinous practices towards a nine-year-old girl by touching her on the body and placing her hand on him at an address in Dunbar between October 1, 1998 and September 30, the following year.

He was also convicted of using the same behaviour towards the same girl by repeatedly inducing her to sit on his knee, performing an indecent act and exposing himself to her at a separate address in the town between October 1, 2000 and September 30, 2005.

Sheriff Alison Stirling placed Weissgerber on the sex offenders' register for a period still to be determined and full sentence was deferred to December 20. He was released on bail.

The jury returned a not proven verdict on allegations Weissgerber sexually assaulted a woman at his home in March 1995 and sexually assaulted a young woman between May 2010 and May 2015.

Further allegations he was cleared of included using lewd, indecent and libidinous practices towards a 12-year-old girl between May 20, 2006 and May 19, 2010. All six verdicts were by a majority.
