A MAN who died after he was struck on a slip road on the A1 at the weekend has been named.

Richard John Cooper, 38, from Edinburgh, was walking on the southbound slip road which joined the dual carriageway at Gladsmuir at around 6.25pm on Saturday when he was hit by a Volkswagen Beetle.

Emergency services were called but Mr Cooper was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police inquiries into the incident are ongoing and officers are appealing for witnesses to come forward.

Sergeant Andy Gibb from the Lothian and Scottish Borders Road Policing Unit said: "Our thoughts remain with Richard's family and we continue to investigate the full circumstances surrounding this incident.
