THE new headteacher of Windygoul Primary School has praised it as a vibrant and exciting community.
Bruce Murray took over the top post at the Tranent school last week.
Mr Murray, who was formerly a headteacher at Lorne Primary School, Leith, has been involved in education development for many years.
He said he was attracted to the Tranent school where he has received a warm welcome from pupils, parents and staff.
Mr Murray said: “My first impressions of Windygoul were that it is a vibrant and exciting school, high functioning and well-led with a talented and committed school team.
“There is a real sense of personal identity and high levels of pupil engagement and parental support, and a strong desire to continually improve and build on their skills and talents.
“The pupils, parents and staff have all been most welcoming.”
Mr Murray said he hoped to build on the work which is already being done at the school to promote learning.
He said: “The school is well placed to continue its forward momentum and I am delighted to become part of that team.
“My hope is that together we can build on this foundation and continue to promote excellence in learning.”
Avril Wilson, the school’s former headteacher, retired in August, after five years in post.
She previously worked at Balgreen Primary School, Edinburgh.
