SKIES above county towns and villages will be lit up over the weekend with a number of fireworks displays promising plenty of excitement.

Tranent and Dunbar start the fun off with a bang on Friday evening with the first of the displays.

The Tranent display will take place in Polson Park this year after the field which has been used in recent years became unavailable.

The annual Fa’side Family Fireworks display has been held off Elphinstone Road for the last five years; however organisers said the farmer who owns the field had told them it was not going to be available this year.

And after looking at surrounding areas they approached East Lothian Council for permission to hold the event in the park.

The display, which is part funded by Tranent and Elphinstone Community Council, gets under way at 6.30pm.

Meanwhile, there is also a display planned for Dunbar on the same night.

The event takes place at Hallhill Sports Centre from 7pm and is organised by the Dunbar Tablers.

Gates open at 6.15pm and entry is £2 for adults and £1 for children, with burgers, tea and coffee being served.

Fireworks will also take to the sky on Saturday in Haddington.

A torchlight procession, led by Haddington Pipe Band, leaves the town’s Corn Exchange at 6.30pm.

Gates at Whittingehame Drive open at the same time, with the bonfire lit at about 7pm.

Fireworks are set off half an hour later.

Rounding things off on Sunday, there are displays in Aberlady, North Berwick, Humbie and Musselburgh.

Soup, hot chocolate and mulled wine will be served up alongside a barbecue at Foxhills Field, at Craigielaw Cottages, Aberlady.

Gates open at 5pm, with the bonfire lit an hour later and fireworks from 6.30pm.

Tickets can be bought in advance from Gosford Bothy Farm Shop, Aberlady Post Office and Aberlady Village Store.

In North Berwick, East Lothian Yacht Club’s fireworks display returns.

The event is normally held annually but organisers were forced to cancel last year due to bad weather.

Now it is back and takes place at the town’s harbour, with the display, which is part-funded by North Berwick Community Council, set to get under way at 7.30pm.

Humbie’s display gets under way at 4.15pm and runs through to 6.30pm.

Guy Fawkes night will be celebrated in Musselburgh with a free fireworks display at Fisherrow Links.

The event, financed by the Musselburgh Common Good Fund, will get underway at 7pm.

Public parking will be restricted during the fireworks display with a designated parking area for Blue Badge holders only at the foot of Links View.

Members of the public are advised to walk or use public transport to the event.

For safety reasons, spectators should not take fireworks for use at this event and refrain from bringing dogs.
