A WOMAN was taken to hospital this morning following a four-car crash on the A1 which caused long delays.
The incident took place at about 6.50am on the A1 westbound (northbound) near Old Craighall and the slip road leading to the A720 City of Edinburgh Bypass.
Police arrived on the scene and a spokeswoman for Police Scotland confirmed that a white Mercedes, a black Vauxhall Astra, blue Vauxhall Mokka and a black Ford Fiesta were involved in the collision.
The inside lane was temporarily closed to deal with the incident, with drivers heading in towards Edinburgh experiencing lengthy tailbacks all the way back to Tranent for about two hours.
The lane has now re-opened and traffic has eased.
The Police Scotland spokeswoman confirmed that one woman was taken to hospital as "a precaution".
