THE leader of the Conservative Group on East Lothian Council is set to resume his duties following illness.

Brian Small has been absent from council meetings since the summer recess due to a severe bout of sepsis.

The Pencaitland resident has been recovering at home and will be assessed by doctors at the end of the month. If he is given the all-clear, Mr Small is expected to return to his role as ward member for Haddington and Lammermuir.

A spokeswoman for the local party told the Courier that Mr Small was continuing his recovery.

She said: “Brian has started to prepare for his full return by spending a few hours in the Conservative and Unionist Group office being briefed and catching up on council business in readiment for his hopeful return next month.”
