TRAIN passengers in East Lothian face several weekends of disruption as major engineering work takes place in the county.

For four successive Saturdays, buses replace trains in East Lothian throughout the day - with the latter three Saturdays seeing every train station in the county affected.

The first Saturday of the works took place on September 16, when buses replaced trains on the Edinburgh to Dunbar line, also calling at Musselburgh.

Then on the three following Saturdays - September 23, September 30 and October 7 - buses will replace trains not only on the Edinburgh to Dunbar line but also on the Edinburgh to North Berwick line, meaning no trains will call at any East Lothian stations that day, with all services replaced by buses.

ScotRail says journey times will be increased on those days as a result of the engineering works.

Rob Shorthouse, ScotRail Alliance communications director, said: “We are working hard to build the best railway that Scotland has ever had.

"We know that having your regular journey changed can be a pain, but all this work really is going to be worth it.

"We are carrying out the biggest upgrade to the network since it was built in Victorian times – and it will mean more seats, faster, more reliable journeys and more and better services.

“You can find out more about these changes and what it means for your own journey by visiting the ScotRail website or by downloading our free app.

"Even although your normal journey might be different while this work is going on, we will keep you moving.”
