PLANS for as many as 100 new homes to the north of Macmerry will be unveiled to the public for the first time tomorrow.

Proposals for a new housing development, between Chesterhall Avenue and St Germains Terrace, were revealed earlier this year.

The planning application has been submitted by Taylor Wimpey East Scotland and the proposals would see the village’s population increase by about 25 per cent.

Currently, Macmerry is home to about 1,300 residents, who will be able to see the plans when they are put on display in Macmerry Miners' Welfare Club tomorrow afternoon.

Pauline Mills, land and planning director with the developer, told the Courier: “Public consultations are an excellent way for Taylor Wimpey East Scotland to engage at an early stage with the community in which it intends to deliver new homes.

“This is an important part of the process, and we would encourage as many members of the public as possible to view our proposals.

“It is our intention to review all of the feedback that we receive at this event in order to inform our design, prior to submitting a detailed planning application to East Lothian Council later this year following the conclusion of the community consultation process.”

The consultation event takes place at the club, Main Road, from 2pm to 8pm.

Members of the public will be able to see the early proposals, which will be made of a mix of two, three and four bedroom properties, with 25 per cent of the houses classed as affordable.
