LEGO lovers are in for a treat with the chance to build some incredible structures this weekend.

The National Museum of Flight is hosting a special Awesome Bricks event on Saturday and Sunday.

More than 80,000 LEGO bricks will be at the East Fortune museum with the chance to see some creations from across Europe, including a spectacular interactive train set and model of Vikings attacking Lindisfarne.

Also on show will be a detailed model by artist Warren Elsmore and his team of the historic National Museum of Scotland building on Edinburgh’s Chambers Street.

The artist will host a series of talks over the weekend about the history of the iconic brand and will explain how he came to make his living from LEGO bricks.

Visitors can design and build a LEGO vehicle, race it against family and friends, and pose for a photo with a LEGO trophy on a special winner’s podium.

Younger children will be able to hone their building skills with bigger bricks in the Duplo Play and Display area and enjoy family storytelling sessions.

Steve McLean, general manager at the museum, said: “LEGO is one of the world’s best-known and best-loved toys and is a great way to unleash children’s imaginations and engineering talents.

“Our Awesome Bricks event is filled with fun and fantastic LEGO brick challenges that make up a wonderful day out the whole family can enjoy.”
