A VILLAGE looks set to say farewell to its Post Office after plans to transform the building into a cafe were given the go-ahead.

Proposals to change Fidra Stores Post Office, on Dirleton’s Main Road, into a cafe were lodged with East Lothian Council at the end of April.

The scheme, submitted by Robert Doris, was discussed earlier this summer by Dirleton Village Association’s (DVA) committee.

Tom Drysdale, who represents the village on Gullane Area Community Council and is a member of the committee, had outlined that it was felt it would be a benefit to the village if the scheme got the green light.

He told the Courier in June that it would have been ideal if the Post Office could be included in the cafe but he accepted space was limited.

Currently, the Post Office is open on a Tuesday and a Thursday morning, with the nearest Post Office for Dirleton residents in North Berwick.
