HADDINGTON’S very own music festival is set to take over the town centre this weekend.

Haddstock will see dozens of musicians, with many from throughout the county, taking to ten venues throughout the town.

The new festival, which takes place on Saturday, is the idea of Rebecca Brady, supported by Visit East Lothian and Haddington and Lammermuir Area Partnership (HALAP).

She was counting down to the event getting under way and said: “I am really excited, more excited than nervous.

“Touch wood, we are all on track and I feel as though I have been working hard from the beginning and I feel I am busy but not frantic, which is a nice place to be.

“I’m excited with a busy brain.”

Venues throughout the town have got into the festival spirit, with music being played from 11am throughout the day.

Rebecca praised the community for buying into the idea of Haddstock, which will see many of the bands playing free of charge, with members of the public encouraged to make donations.

She added: “The support has been phenomenal from local businesses.

“East Lothian Council have just been so supportive and helpful as well and Councillor John McMillan has been fantastic.

“He was the first person I spoke to about Haddstock and he was really enthusiastic.”

Local musicians will also be taking to the stage at venues ranging from The Railway Hotel to the Victoria Inn and from Jabberwocky Soft Play to The Bridge Centre.

The festival culminates at Haddington Town House, with Aberfeldy taking to the stage in the headline gig.

Murray Briggs, the group’s drummer, lives in Haddington and the band, who have played at T in the Park and supported Blondie and REM, will be joined by mylittlebrother and The Banjo Lounge 4.

Rebecca, who is a freelance artist living in the town, encouraged members of the public to head along and enjoy the music on offer.

It is hoped the festival, if successful, could become a regular feature on the town’s social calendar.

She added: “There is something for everybody.

“I’m really excited about the massive variety of music and I am really excited about the combination of new exciting talent and really excited to see better known names that I have not seen live before.”
