STOBO Castle Ladies Day at Musselburgh Racecourse was hailed an outstanding success after its 12th consecutive sell-out on Saturday.

More than 10,000 horse racing fans and fashion-conscious revellers enjoyed the warm weather and first-class racing with the £100,000 William Hill Scottish Sprint Cup as the showpiece race.

Line of Reason, with jockey Joe Fanning on board, had the crowd on its feet as it won the big race and Yorkshire trainer Paul Midgley pulled off a fantastic double when Orient Class took the honours in the £40,000 William Hill Tartan Trophy Consolation Race.

In the stage marquee, Honest Toun beauty Nicki Slater produced a home win for Musselburgh when she was selected by the judges as the Stobo Castle Queen of Style and collected a cheque for £5,000.

The best dressed man, The King of Style, was Falkirk professional footballer Nathan Austin, who proved his flair extends from the football pitch to race track, winning £1,000 in Slater’s clothing vouchers for the second year in a row. Isobel Kirk was recognised as wearing the Best Hat and received a £300 voucher from Sally-Ann Provan Millinery.

To round off the celebrations, celebrity television fashion expert Gok Wan kept everyone on their feet with an hour-long DJ set as host of the after-party.

Sarah Montgomery, Musselburgh Racecourse senior operations and commercial manager, said: “It was another fantastic day when the sun came out for us and excellent horse racing combined with high fashion to produce a day to remember.

“I think this may be the first time the Queen of Style has been a local Musselburgh girl and Nicki Slater is a beautiful ambassador for the Honest Toun.”

After a successful Ladies Day and a record 6,200 attendance at the Edinburgh Cup earlier this month, racing returns on July 14 for Friday Night at the Races.
