EAST Lothian's spell of sunny weather is set to come to an abrupt end tomorrow (Wednesday), with the Met Office issuing a weather warning for heavy rain for the county.

The Met Office has issued a yellow 'be aware' warning for rain for the county, covering the period from 3am tomorrow morning until 6am on Thursday morning.

Bouts of rain, which may be heavy and thundery at times, are likely to move in from the west overnight tonight.

In some areas, full thunderstroms may break out on Wednesday afternoon with torrential downpours, frequent lightning and a chance of hail.

However, forecasters predict that East Lothian is likely to receive its heavy rain in the morning through to mid-afternoon, and it is expected to ease off in the late afternoon throught to a dry evening and night.

Some disruption to transport is possible, potentially also to power supplies in the event of thunderstorms.

However, the Met Office adds that much of the worst weather is expected to be highly localised and it is possible that some areas forecast for heavy rain may remain dry and sunny for much of the day tomorrow.

Temperatures will still remain fairly high, likely to be in the high teens to low 20s in East Lothian.
