A GANG of masked men are being hunted after a motorbike was stolen from a property in Athelstaneford in the early hours of yesterday morning (Wednesday).

Four men, who were described as wearing black clothing and balaclavas, are being sought following the theft of the distinctive black and orange trial bike, which was taken from an address on Glebe Crescent at about 12.50am.

Police are also investigating a break-in to a shop in Tranent 20 minutes later by two men, one of whom was described as wearing a white boiler suit with a hood which they believe may be linked to the earlier incident.

Detectives said that a till and cash was stolen during the break-in to the shop in Blawearie Road.

They said two men forced their way into the shop, one wearing the boiler suit with a distinctive American football-style top over it with the number 3 written on the back.

There was no description of the second suspect.

Officers said both break-ins had resulted in high-value thefts.

Detective Constable Ross Blair of Dalkeith CID said: “These were two high-value thefts and we are eager to trace those responsible as soon as possible.

“The motorcycle that was taken is very distinctive in colour and I would ask anyone who recognises this black and orange bike to report the sighting to police.

“Anyone who did see suspicious activity in the Athelstaneford and Tranent areas is asked to get in touch with us as soon as possible.”

Call police on 101 with information.
