A HIBERNIAN footballer caught driving while nearly three times over the drink-drive limit has been banned from the roads.
Martin Boyle had been drinking before being caught behind the wheel on the A1 near to Haddington last month.
Winger Boyle was caught out by police officers the day after he had helped the Easter Road club to a 1-1 draw with Dunfermline in a Scottish Championship match at East End Park.
The 24-year-old, who has also played for Montrose and Dundee, appeared in the dock at Edinburgh Sheriff Court on May 2.
Sheriff Peter McCormack fined the footballer £400 and banned him from driving for 12 months.
Boyle, of Haines Drive, Dunbar, admitted driving a vehicle on the A1 near to Haddington with 63mg of alcohol in 100ml of breath. The legal limit is just 22mg.
The footballer has played 76 times for Hibs and scored 17 goals since signing for the Easter Road club in 2015.
Boyle made no comment when contacted.
