A DRIVER had a lucky escape after his van struck a telegraph pole and overturned near a roundabout on the outskirts of Aberlady.

Police have closed part of the A6137 which runs from the roundabout at Ballencrief towards Aberlady Mains, following the accident, which happened at lunchtime today.

They said no-one was injured in the accident but the telegraph pole was no longer safe and the road remains closed until BT engineers can fix it.

The incident comes less than a month after a road was closed outside Musselburgh after a vehicle struck a lamppost at a roundabout, making the area unsafe.
