EARLY plans for the latest phase of housing at Hallhill have been submitted to East Lothian Council.

Persimmon Homes has identified a section of land off Brodie Road for potential development. The site, which is opposite the junction with Steading Crescent and the A1 and to the west of Muirfield Road, could see more than 80 houses being built.

Already, plans for more than 500 houses south of the railway line in Dunbar have been given the go-ahead, with streets stretching off Brodie Road and the nearby Kellie Road.

A formal meeting further detailing the plans is expected in the coming weeks before a formal planning application is submitted.

Details about the scheme have also been sent to councillors Michael Veitch, Paul McLennan and Norman Hampshire, although the scheme will not go before any council committee until after the local authority election next week.

Jim Kirkpatrick, managing director at Persimmon Homes East Scotland, said: “Following the huge success of our Earls Gate site in Dunbar, we recognised the demand for new homes in the town. Taking this into account, we are in the very early stages of the planning process to build 81 new homes on the land to the South of Brodie Road.

“We are committed to involving the local community in shaping our proposals and will communicate the details of the consultation event as soon as it is confirmed.”
