VISITORS who are spotted peering through people’s windows when they are out should be reported to police, Prestonpans Community Council has been told.
Concerns were raised about a rise in incidents in the Grange Road area of people calling at empty houses and hanging around.
It was claimed unknown visitors would call and, if they were not answered, were seen looking through ground floor windows.
One resident told the community council that he and other people had confronted the visitors.
Community councillor Alan Hunter said: “There have been a lot of unwanted calls and looking in windows. It has been going on since the turn of the year.”
A community police officer appealed to anyone whose suspicions were raised to contact officers.
Community officer Peter Bradley said there had been no reports of incidents in the street recently. He added: “We would encourage people to call us, even if they are perfectly polite and go on their way when confronted.”
