MORE than a dozen bouts have ensured East Lothian Boxing Club’s (ELBC) annual show has proven a great success.

Haddington’s Corn Exchange was packed, with nine competitive bouts and four exhibitions on a busy night.

Finlay Rae was first up, and the 10-year-old made his debut in a very competitive bout against Fraser Kelly (Zetland BC), in which the home boxer came out on top. Amy Fox (ELBC), boxed Samantha Joiner (Arbroath BC) in an exhibition bout, before Adam Aitchison (Chirnside BC) beat Marcus Allan (Zetland BC) in a competitive bout.

Taelor Snaith (Bronx Boxing Gym, Tranent) was victorious against, Chloe Borwick, of O’Neills BC, in a close bout, before the second exhibition – between Midlothian BC’s Steven Crawford and Jordan Robertson (Clelland BC).

Ryan Clark (Zetland BC) against Brendan Dobbie was also an exhibition due to the weight difference.

Ciaran Young (ELBC) and Kieran Docherty (Clelland BC) faced each other for the third time, with Young finishing second-best on two occasions. But the tables turned, with Young producing a fantastic display to take the decision.

Next up was Sam Hutchison (ELBC) against Aiden Wilson (Cardenden) who boxed in a last-minute exhibition.

Robbie Watson (ELBC) fought Corey Hunter (Hawick BC) in a hard-fought stopped in Hunter’s favour in round three, with the bout judged best of the evening.

ELBC boxer Conall Boardman then earned a hard-fought victory versus David Aikman, before Peter Paxton fell to defeat at the hands of Mitchell Sutherland of Arbroath.

The penultimate bout of the night saw Ben Cockburn defeat Brendan Howatt (Lochee), before top of the bill was Matt Cunningham versus Krystian Bozek (Lochend).

This was all-action affair, with Bozek constantly coming forward, while Cunningham caught the eye with some big shots. In the end, Cunningham got the deserved victory and was judged as the best home boxer for a fourth time.

Callum Colquhoun, president of East Lothian Boxing Club, thanked events manager, Olivia Colgan, the coaches and boxers, who did themselves proud, as well as delegates and admin staff who worked behind the scenes to put on the show, plus the MC, doctor and voluntary officials.
