FIREFIGHTERS are dealing with "a large area" of field and stubble alight at Blindwells, off the A1.
The site, which could be home to 1,600 houses under plans due to be discussed by East Lothian Council later this week, is between Tranent and Longniddry.
Firefighters from the Tranent station were at the fire at about 5.40pm and were using a high-pressure hose to tackle the blaze.
The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service had also called for assistance from Police Scotland to manage traffic on the busy road.
