POLICE are investigating after a cooker and hob were stolen from a new-build home in Haddington.

Thieves took the items, worth about £300, from a yet-to-be-occupied house at Cranston Way, to the west of Gateside Road, on February 13.

The incident was highlighted in a report to the town’s community council, which met last Tuesday evening.

Just a week earlier, Chief Inspector Matt Paden, local area police commander, highlighted at a meeting of East Lothian Council’s police, fire and community safety scrutiny committee an increase in thefts from building sites.

Items including boilers had been stolen from newly-constructed and yet-to-be-occupied houses at locations across East Lothian.

He said: “We have seen a number of new properties not yet occupied stolen from within.”

Officers have also spoken with the construction industry to highlight security measures that can be taken to prevent potential thefts.

Call police on 101 with information.
