LONG-awaited proposals for 1,600 homes at Blindwells will be decided next week - and here is our exclusive look at how the new town and its facilities would look.

Discussions surrounding the site - a former opencast mine between Tranent and Longniddry - have been ongoing for more than a decade.

Now, next Wednesday, a decision should be made on whether first-phase plans for houses, business units, a supermarket, school and various other facilities including a loch get the green light.

If planning permission is granted by East Lothian Council's planning committee, the applicants, Hargreaves Surface Mining Ltd, anticipate that building work on the first homes could be under way in 12 months' time.

The video, which is just over a minute long, starts off facing east, showing the full site before sweeping along the southern boundary - beside the A1.

A local park, football pitches and allotments are also shown on the eastern edge of the site.

A section at the northern side of the site, which is next to the A198, is earmarked for business use, with larger business units in the north-east corner.

Then, alongside Princess Loch, are smaller business units, as well the potential of a supermarket.

If approved, it is anticipated work would take place over the next 12-15 years, with plans for thousands more houses also being drawn up.
