MOTORISTS faced long delays this morning after an accident on the A1.
The incident took place on the westbound carriageway of the A1 near Old Craighall at about 6.10am.
Initially the whole westbound carriageway was shut, but the outside lane was swiftly cleared and re-opened.
The inside lane of the carriageway remained closed for about four hours, however, causing long delays, with traffic backed up as far as Bankton Junction, near Meadowmill.
Delays continued after vehicles were cleared from the scene but the lane remained closed for some time as police waited for assistance clearing a fuel spill on the road.
Soon after 10am, the inside lane was finally re-opened, with delays now gradually starting to ease.
Police said that no one was injured in the accident, which involved a Vauxhall Corsa and Volkswagen GT.
