SCHOOLS in East Lothian will receive £1,569,600 in direct funding from the Scottish Government as part of its move to support pupils form deprived areas.

The Pupil Equity Funding allocations are based on the number of pupils from P1 to S3 known to be eligible for free school meals, with schools receiving around £1,200 per pupil.

John Swinney, Deputy First Minister, announced the contributions to each primary school today with £1,262,400 going to the county's primary schools and a further £307,200 going to the six secondary schools.

The new fund sees £120million being distributed directly to head teachers and school leaders who can decide how to use it to help tackle poverty related attainment gaps at their schools.

The breakdown of payments announced for secondary schools are as follows: Dunbar Grammar School, £42,000; Knox Academy, £24,000; Musselburgh Grammar School, £85,200; North Berwick High School, £21,600; Preston Lodge High School, £63,600; Ross High School, £70,800.
