AN ORMISTON man has denied setting fire to a property which allegedly caused the death of a dog.

Fraser Smith, of Co-op Buildings, is said to have set fire to brake fluid and bed clothes within the property at Stoneyhill Place, Musselburgh, in December 2014.

The blaze is said to have spread to nearby furniture and fittings, allegedly causing extensive heat and smoke damage to the home.

Smith, 28, is also said to have caused the death of a dog during the alleged incident.

The Ormiston man appeared in the dock at Edinburgh Sheriff Court last week, where he continued to plead his innocence.

Solicitor Andrew Mellor told the court that there was a possibility of a resolution to the case without it going to trial and a further diet was set down for this Thursday.
