MORE than 60 people from all walks of life turned up at a Musselburgh cafe which offered to serve free Christmas dinners on Christmas Day.

Sandwich Stop boss Ali Barclay opened the shop’s doors on December 25 to provide meals to anyone who stopped by looking for company or support.

Ali and his staff welcomed people through the doors between 10am and 4pm on Sunday.

He said: “It went well. We served between 60 and 70 meals on Christmas Day and had a diverse range of people in. We had elderly who had no family to share the day with and homeless, as well as families who couldn’t afford the traditional Christmas meal.

“We now have £300 plus over 40 food items left to donate to the local foodbank.”
