A HADDINGTON man suffered serious injuries in an accident on Chesters Farm last week.

Kris Paterson was working at the farm, near Gifford, when part of wall collapsed on top of him last Tuesday afternoon. The circumstances of the incident are not known, but the 23-year-old was taken by ambulance to the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh, and more than a week later, he remains in hospital.

Mr Paterson’s family were unavailable to talk to the Courier.

The 23-year-old is a keen rugby player, and was appointed vice-captain at Haddington RFC ahead of this season.

Rhodri Thomas, the club’s head coach, told the Courier: “Everyone involved at the club was shocked to hear about Kris’ accident.

“He is a key member of the squad and has a lead role in the team.

“Kris is very vocal in his approach and is always encouraging players to work hard and strive for our target of promotion.

“The whole squad wish Kris a full and speedy recovery, and look forward to seeing him back down at the club.”

Police have confirmed the matter has been referred to the Health and Safety Executive.

A spokesman confirmed that Mr Paterson had suffered “serious injuries”.
