YOUNGSTERS at Sanderson’s Wynd Primary School picked up a national award after turning a one-day celebration into an entire week of events.

Pupils and teachers at The Hub, at the Tranent school, were presented with their trophy after they were declared overall winners of National Move Day 2016.

The day, organised by flagship disability project the Move Programme from Enham Trust, saw pupils and staff in schools across Britain don their best fancy dress costumes to celebrate and share the newfound skills they have gained as part of the programme, which aims to help them gain functional mobility for learning and life.

The Hub held a Midsummer Mischief week to celebrate National Move Day in the summer, with fun in the pool, sandcastles, obstacle courses, messy art, baking and a tea party all part of the celebrations.

And they have been named overall winners of the day, after their celebrations were judged to have perfectly encapsulated the spirit of the Move Programme.

Suzanne Richardson, Move Programme co-ordinator, congratulated the school after members of her team visited Tranent this week to present The Hub with a trophy and £500 gift voucher from Jenx, which makes postural support products for children.

Suzanne said: “We’re really proud of the staff and pupils at Sanderson’s Wynd for embracing our 10th annual national Move Day. The initiative aims to celebrate the wonderful achievements made by children, their parents, and all professionals involved working to improve the mobility and consequent independence of all children participating in the programme.

“Congratulations to everyone involved, and thank you to Jenx for generously donating a gift voucher.”

The Move Programme was incorporated by disability charity Enham Trust in 2015, and reflects the charity’s mission to support as many disabled people across the country as possible to gain independence, choice and control over their daily lives.
