EMERGENCY services attended the Loch Centre in Tranent yesterday (Thursday) after a gym user took unwell.
Police and two ambulances were called to the centre, on the town's Loch Road, shortly after 3pm.
A man was taken to the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh.
A police spokesman said the issue was a "medical matter", and the man is still in hospital.
The gym was closed for the rest of the day but re-opened this morning (Friday).
No-one from enjoyleisure, who run the county's sports centres, was able to comment further on the incident and Loch Centre staff declined to speak to the Courier.
